    DETAILED DESCRIPTION:

Palazzo Monsieur Ippoliti is a 430 sq.mt. stately historic palazzo dating back to the 1700s. The property nestles in the heart of the medieval centre of the hill-top town of Arpino in one of the oldest sections of town called Civita Falconara. The home of one of the grand families of Arpino, the palazzo now requires restoration and modernisation. However, many of the beautiful old features still remain and could be incorporated in the restoration: the splendid high-ceilinged rooms with antique wooden doors and floor tiles, the spacious marble stairs, the grand street entrance with its stone crest above the great front door, the façade of the building with its original stone balconies.  A particular feature of the palazzo is the original kitchen, still with all the antique fittings in working order. This is a rarity to find in such good condition as so often these fittings have been stripped out and sold.  Cellars of 35 sq.mt. and a small but charming roof terrace with panoramic views complete the features of this imposing and prestigious property.  Floor plans have been drawn up and are available upon request showing how the palazzo could be subdivided into several separate apartments.

The palazzo was named after a notable priest and scholar, Luigi Ippoliti, who was born in the Civita area of Arpino, in the palazzo now known as the Palazzo Monsignor Ippoliti, on 14 January 1875. Even while still a child at school his intelligence, his clarity of thought, his dedication to his studies and his piety marked him apart from others and brought him to the attention of the local dignitaries of the Church. His schooling completed with distinction, Luigi Ippoliti entered the Church and in 1915 was nominated for the position of priest at the Church of Santa Maria in Civita, Arpino, where he initiated and pursued intensely many activities, not restricted solely to religious works, including the founding of an orphanage and the establishment of a military hospital where many soldiers suffering from malaria were nursed back to health during both the first and second World Wars. His excellence as a scholar remained evident in the various writings and treatises that he published. These include descriptions of life as a priest and various tributes to Arpino the town of his birth which he describes as "an oasis of peace and beauty". In 1936 he published "The Place of Birth of Marco Tullio Cicerone" (Cicero) to critical acclaim. He died in 1950 aged seventy five, greatly mourned by all who had known him, after a life of selfless service to others during which he also succeeded in raising international awareness of the many attributes of his beloved Arpino.

Arpino is one of the most important medieval hilltop towns in the area of Italy called the Ciochiaria, the name given to the fertile land that lies south of Rome but north of Naples, situated inland in the hills in the heart of Italy.

The Ciociaria region is within easy reach of both Rome and naples and their respective airports.  A day's shopping in Rome is a common pastime, while an even shorter drive brings you to the charming Mediterranean beaches south of Rome. Alternatively, drive east, and the mountains of the Abruzzo National Park await with horse trekking in the magnificent beech forests, and sparkling mountain lakes and rivers where you can swim in the heat of summer.  And at the other extreme of temperature, although the towns of the Ciociaria are temperate, less than an hour's drive brings you to the winter ski slopes. Often overlooked, both by tourists and by foreigners in search of an Italian home, in favour of the more publicised regions of Tuscany and Umbria, the Ciociaria remains largely an unspoilt gem with beautiful scenery and medieval hilltop towns.  A home or a second home in the Ciociaria, in the hilltop towns of Arpino, Veroli or Alatri or in the rolling countryside that surrounds them, will afford you a setting where over two thousand years of history combine with an idyllic rural Italian lifestyle, where you can still discover the 'real' Italy and take time out from the busy crowds of the larger tourist cities, while being less than ninety minutes journey from central Rome or either of Rome's two airports.
